Frequently Asked Questions:

WHAT DO YOU LEARN IN YOUR MUSIC LESSONS?

That question is often asked by prospective students. Our teachers make it a priority to get to know you on a personal level and to become familiar with your personal musical needs and goals.

We do not treat every student the same in terms of what and how we teach.

An eight year old having their first guitar lesson will have very different needs than an adult taking up piano for the 2nd time after having had lessons as a child.

The main reason to choose the Atlanta School of Musical Arts as your music lesson provider is that we are sensitive to the fact that every student is an individual.

If you enroll here for lessons, we will work with you to make a plan that will fit your needs and musical preferences. Before the first lesson your teacher will ask you about your favorite type of music, and set goals to help accomplish whatever musical aspirations you have for yourself or your child.

WHAT STYLES OF MUSIC DO YOU TEACH?

We teach all styles including Rock, Pop, Country, R&B, Hip-Hop, Metal, Jazz, Blues, Funk, Gospel, Classical and Electronic Music.

ARE YOUR INSTRUCTORS QUALIFIED?

Our teachers have received their music education from prestigious institutions such as Berklee College of Music, Musicians Institute, GA State University, Emory University, Atlanta Institute of Music, and more. All of them have teaching experience, and most importantly, they have a passion for teaching. Being a musician doesn’t automatically make you a teacher–that’s why we search for those who are best qualified for mentoring our music students! Most importantly, our instructors strive to relate their teaching to each individual student’s learning style. Many of our instructors have gone on performance tours across the US and overseas and have years of professional performance and teaching experience. In addition to their teaching credentials, our teachers have warm personalities, are extremely friendly, and strive to get to know each student and their parent on a personal level. We search high and low for the BEST teachers, so you don’t have to!

GUITAR LESSONS

We offer guitar lessons for ages 8 and up. Our guitar teachers teach Rock, Pop, Blues, Jazz, Metal, R&B, Country, and Classical guitar lessons on electric, acoustic and bass guitars. Beginner students can expect to work on their favorite songs using simple bass lines, chords, melodies, sight reading and theory. Our primary goal is to teach you how to play your favorite songs and we balance musicianship and fun by making sure that each lesson you are challenged with a new technical or theory concept. We use a variety of guitar method workbooks to accomplish this and encourage students to bring CDs or their iPad to their lesson to learn their favorite tunes.

PIANO LESSONS

We offer piano lessons for ages 4.5 and up. Our piano teachers teach a variety of styles from contemporary to classical music. Whether you want to learn Alicia Keys, Beatles, or Bach our teachers are happy to help you become the pianist you want to be. Through incorporating your favorite songs into your lessons, our piano faculty will show you the fundamentals of sight reading, technique and theory. You do not have to have a piano at home to take lessons. A simple full size electronic keyboard will suffice. Our piano teachers have warm personalities and enjoy sharing their love for the piano with you.

VOICE LESSONS

We offer voice lessons for ages 6 and up. Our vocal coaches primarily focus on popular music. If you have always wanted to be a better Rock, Pop, R&B, Country, Gospel or Jazz singer, then we have the right voice teachers for you. Voice students spend time each week doing physical exercises to improve their vocal range, ear training, breath control, vibrato, tone production, enunciation and more. All voice students set goals with their teacher to work on sounding like their favorite recording artists, or if they prefer, to develop their own unique voice.

VIOLIN LESSONS

We provide lessons for Violin, Viola, Cello, and Double Bass. Our strings instructors will teach all styles of music, from learning to play by ear to reading music. If you want to play classical music or the fiddle, we have a teacher for you. Students can be as young as 5 years old, or younger with the teacher’s approval. Our students love learning the fundamentals, as well as incorporating your favorite songs into their lessons. Our violin teachers have friendly personalities and love working with children and teens and adults!

DRUM LESSONS

Drum lessons are offered for aged 6 and up. Our drum instructors teach Rock, Pop, Metal, Jazz, Funk, Blues and many other styles. Drum language can be complex and our instructors will challenge any drummer with a wide variety of technical exercises designed to improve your speed and comfort. All drummers bring in their favorite drum parts to learn in their lessons and theory is encouraged. We have many drum students who play in local bands be it in rock clubs or their local churches.

SAXOPHONE & TRUMPET LESSONS

Lessons on Woodwind and Brass instruments are offered for aged 8 and up.Our saxophone and trumpet teachers teach a variety of styles from Jazz to popular music. Not all band directors have the chance to work with every individual student in school bands. That is where our private instruction is of its most value. Our faculty will show you the fundamentals of sight reading, technique and theory, tone production, and will work with you on your favorite songs. In addition, they will also incorporate your school band and orchestra music into your lessons as well. Our saxophone and trumpet teachers have warm personalities and enjoy sharing their love of music with you.
